Cowra Historical Society, Val Carpenter 6342 2558 Cowra 2794

The Cowra and District Historical Society and Museum Inc. collects, preserves and disseminates information and artefacts relating to the history of the town of Cowra, New South Wales, Australia and surrounding areas.

We don't currently have a museum to display our collections but are always working towards having one.

In the meantime, we are always involved in research - for ourselves, for people requesting local information and for other local organisations. There is a charge for research - this helps us to pay our rent and electricity accounts!

Our library consists of over 400 books and 300 files on families, places and events associated with our shire and the surrounding areas.

We have a large collection of newspapers on film:
The Bathurst Free Press 1850-1897
The Bathurst Times 1860-1878
The Bathurst Advocate 1848-1849
The Cowra Guardian 1896-1907
and 1943-1954
The Cowra Free Press 1878-1937
The Lachlan Leader 1937-1943

We also have a large collection of maps of the surrounding areas.

Our postal address is PO Box 95 Cowra NSW 2794.

We are located at the rear of the Cowra Visitors Information Centre, corner of Boorowa, Grenfell and Young Roads, Cowra and are open every Thursday and Saturday morning from 9am to 12noon.

Our monthly meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm in the Meeting Room between Cowra Library and Cowra Art Gallery and visitors are welcome to attend.
